To Do

Has been a while since my last post. I guess it doesn't make any difference since no one reads my stuff.

Last Saturday I went out with a friend. We went downtown Rio. We did museums, pop shops and overall stuff. It was a very nice day. I really enjoy going to downtown Rio. It has that New York feeling (the closest I'm getting to it now). The cabs are yellow, the buildings are tall, there's culture everywhere. I love it!

Apart from this lovely afternoon (as the Britons would say) my life has been a very long to do list with no prospect whatsoever of getting done. There is a long list of books to read, films to be seen, exercises to be made, web sites to be built, home chores... It never ends! And I guess that by now you have got the reason right. I'm lazy, and instead of doing all that stuff, here am I. Writing on a blog that no one actually reads.

Perhaps would be best for me if I just go and do what's best for me.

And for my friends I've been letting down. Sorry, but as U can see, it's not getting better. See ya soon, maybe...

Life starting to move on

After the school results and the end of the public examination exams, I was like "on hold". Didn't know what my life was going to be like, since the results only come on the end of January, and as the school year has ended, my vacation was a little boring.

But now i found a lot of thins to do. I ride my bike almost everyday, with friends or not. There are a lot of books to read now that I have free time. This year was held in Rio de Janeiro, the "Bienal do Livro", it's a gathering of all publishing editors and major booksellers, in a big convention center on the outskirts of Rio. The discounts are huge, and you always get the chance to meet your favorite author. My friend Igor managed to buy the new book his favorite author released, and got it signed by him right away.

I bought like 15 books. Its more than the average person read in a year in the 1st world countries. When studying for the exams I didn't have the time now I have.

I'm a boy scout. Now at the age of 18, I'm starting to do the courses to prep me for being an educator, not an educated. So I also have a lot of books to read. Well, not so much, only 6, but still is something to do.

I discovered today I like having a busy life. Almost not stopping at home. Always on the go. I guess that's why I don't get so excited with the idea of living in Canada. It seems to me a very calm place. That's why I want London. Level one global city, with mass circulation of people and information. loads of things to do and see.

So that's it, today I have to worry bout the results, preparing to the boy scouts courses, have fun, make exercises, spend time with my father, clean the house, listen to music...

Music

Lately I've been listening a lot to music. Not that I didn't do it before, its just that on my birthday (July 2) my father and his girlfriend gave me an MP3 player, and since then, my world changed for music.

As a child, even tough I liked it, I wasn't the music freak that I am today. When everyone had the K7 Walkman, I also had one. But then came the Discman, the MP3 Discman, the first MP3 Players, and I was still stuck with the old K7s. But now things are different.

Its funny how such a tiny object like that can change your life. Music is my fuel, is what keeps me alive (I'm not a suicidal ok? Its just an expression...). Listening to music can give me so many feelings, remind me of the good times, of what I was doing when that song played, or it can just make me happy, make me want to dance like crazy, make me feel sad. So many feelings in less than 4 minutes.

For instance: "Computer Heat", by CSS, makes me want to dance. But is not simply dancing. Its that dancing you just do for yourself, jumping, moving your arms, spinning around, not in front of everyone in the dance floor. Oh the dance floor! I can imagine myself in it. Remember the one in the film Babel, in the part in Japan, where the handicap girl goes to the club. That environment is awesome! Music so loud, lights dancing alongside with you, flashes of people having the same experience. Fucking awesome!! I don't understand why the hell people do drugs. Who needs it when you have dance music? Like CSS says in "Music is my Hot Hot Sex", "From all the drugs the one I like more is music".

Kylie Minogue is a genius in the dance music segment, along with Madonna recently. Songs like "In Your Eyes", "Spinning Around", "Come into my World", "Can't get you out of my Head" and "Let it will be" are the ones that make me go crazy with earphones and volume on max. Madonna's songs are good, but the best are the ones that never turn out to be a single, save some exceptions, like "Music" and "Sorry".

That's all for today, but some next time I'll continue with the music subject. For now you can go and search on Deezer, a web site to listen legally and free music, for the songs I told you about. Trust me, you won't be losing time.

First things first

I decided that I'm going to try and use Windows Live Spaces and other Live services. So I figured out, why not do this in English? It is good for me cos I can practice, and plus Sheena can read my thoughts.

I have tried millions of times to do a blog, but for the lack of things to write about I always end up closing it. I hope this time is different although I'm not very confident.

I guess I'll write about design, my actual passion, followed by music. I have applied for ESDI in UERJ. It is the Superior School of Industrial Design, in the State University of Rio de Janeiro. The exams are difficult and there are too many people applying for the vacancies open. The admission exam is composed of two phases. The Qualification Exam, and the Written Test. On the Qualification exam your result will be A, B, C, D or E. The ones with the E concept, are excluded from the 2nd phase. The ones with A have a 20 points bonus for the 2nd phase, the B, 15, C, 10 and D, 5. There are 35 vacancies open, but half of them are exclusive for handicaps, afro-brazilians, indians, and sons of firefighters and police officers. So for a regular person like me there are 18 vacancies for the course I want. Last year, applying for these non-special vacancies there were 80 people with the A concept. So if you want to pass without any of those situations described earlier, you have to score A on the Qualification Exam. I scored C... But I guess that's alright cos this year the exam was particularly difficult and there was nearly half of the number of A concepts than last year, so the score has dropped down.

The result goes out on January 25, and after that there is the re-classification, where they intend to fill the vacancies that people didn't wanted.

I really don't care if I made it 1st or I was the last one. I'm all about going in.

The point is that I'm trying to make a blog about design without even studying it properly. I'm most DIY design stuff, so not quite the expertise on the subject.

I just hope that someday I'll manage to do it...

see ya later mate!
